As we all know the cost of diesel in the long term in only going to get more expensive. Therefore we need to reduce transportation where possible, in terms of fuel we can help ourselves by encouraging more local small pellet mill operations. Currently the pellet fuel model is based on large-scale pellet mill plants. Here there is a lot of transportation of raw materials to these plants and also send the pellets from the pellet mill to the customer. However a small local pellet mill can use local biomass materials to produce local pellets. Here transportation of both the raw material and the finished pellets has been reduced. Not only that it will also generate a lot of local jobs that are much needed in most areas. The issue is we often presume that large-scale operations are better in all cases. With pellet mill operations this is simply not the case.
